Audio – Our New Minister Jan 26th 2010

Tim Oldham | January 31, 2010

Carl’s induction and licencing as Resident Minister of St Jo’s was on Feb 26th and here’s most of the audio from it. Some of the actual licencing elements weren’t captured but the best stuff is all here – in my opinion anyway.

Listen here…or pick it up on iTunes. (Please also see the Help page on this site about this.)

I haven’t been able to listen to every minute of this I’m afraid so please do get in touch if there are problems with the audio. Again apols if there is some that is not great quality but I have had to rework a little from the wrong microphones.

How many men does it take to clean a window sill?

Tim Oldham | January 25, 2010

The window sill in question is about 5 metres up and you can see the answer to the question in the photos below. Ah, the things we do to make St Jo’s a welcoming place!

Now, if I’d fallen off Gary’s shoulders, who would have explained it to our Health and Safety rep? And who would have explained to my consultant why his work with the scalpel and the grand’s worth of titanium plates he put in my face at Christmas needed re-doing?

Audio – January 17th 2010 (sort of)

Tim Oldham | January 20, 2010

We’ve still got problems with sermon recording, but Ness Tobin (who spoke on the 17th) has re-recorded her talk and so we can present it here anyway. Thanks Ness. She’s speaking about making Church welcome and I’m particularly pleased to hear it as I missed it on the day and it’s really rather good.

As ever, listen here…or pick it up on iTunes. (Please also see the Help page on this site about this.)

Carl’s Licensing

Tim Oldham | January 18, 2010

Don’t forget – Carl’s licensing is on Tuesday 26th January at 7.15 for a 7.30 start.

It will be a memorable occasion for St Jo’s, a chance to give a massive welcome to Carl, Aileen and Lydia. Please be there if you can!

I’ve no idea if we’re off to the Balti Palace afterwards though…

Webmaster updates!

Tim Oldham | January 10, 2010

All,

OK, so it’s been ages since I wrote anything here. But many thanks to Carl for his Christmas message. I’ve had an excuse – many of you will know that I was quite seriously injured in a cycling accident (as in “no idea what happened, found in the road in a pool of blood”) and had to have a 4+ hour op to put my cheekbones back together with 4 chunks of titanium plate. Thank you Lord for modern medicine and the people who have put their time and energy into mending me, to all those in our Family who have sustained me with their care and love, and for giving me such a positive perspective. Pictures on application to me – much too gruesome to post here, as they literally had to slice me open from ear to ear and peel my face back so they could get at the bones – if you are a really interested person you’ll find medical literature and even pictures Out There on the internet by searching for “bicoronal flap”.  But it’s amazing how these things – 35 of so stitches! – heal. No, it wasn’t my cheapskate way of getting a facelift (although it has that effect!), nor was it a way to find an excuse to buy a Focus Cayo 105 2009 (although it has had that effect too).

On to more relevant business. You will not have failed to notice that there has been no audio posted up for a few weeks. This is not just because of my medical slacking, but also because the gadget we use for recording the services has failed again. Simon’s on to it and there will be a solution soon, I’m assured. I leave all that up to Si and Co.

If you are involved in the use of the PC in the church, you’ll notice it now requires a real login ID and acceptance of terms and conditions of use. This is because it’s now on the internet and so subject to acceptable use conditions. See one of the church wardens for more info on this – I believe the conditions still need formal DCC sign-off.

I am sure there are lots of sections of the website that need sprucing up and I am working on it. Honest – but please do point out things that are wrong. The bulletins and rotas should remain up to date.
